Presentation Update! (v.1.06.0)


Presentation Update Plus a Small Message!

A lot has happened from our last update. A lot. We presented in Z3, a game convention for student made games in UCI, and a spring showcase/final presentation night for VGDC! Afterwards, we still had things to work on which brings us here to this big update for our final presentation for VGDC! 

New Features

A New Challenger

"A face not even a mother can love." - Daisy (Lead Artist)

Pissanx Bebe is our new character for the game! Both players can play as Pissanx Bebe and fence! As our game is super simple, he does not have any special moves as you would expect in most fighting games. He has the exact same moveset as Julie.  Our design principle is easy to learn a bridge for new players to get into more complex fighting games. 

New Stage

The ballroom is now a playable stage where you can duke it out with style! Make sure you have nice footwork to impress onlookers of your duel!

Refined Animations

Even though our past animations in previous builds look pretty nice, we wanted to go a step further and make it more complete. Thus, our animator Andy brings in new animations and refined old animations for each character!

    • Defenestration (occurs when you push someone towards the edge of the stage) 
    • Back dash and front dash
  • Refined animations

    • Walk
    • Heavy Attack 
    • Short Jab 
    • Hurt/Injured

UI

We freshened up the UI as well with new assets and features! 

  • New Buttons
  • Added portraits to health bars
  • Character Select
  • Stage Select 

Balance

  • Active dashing period lengthened: 0.2s -> 0.35s
  • Dash speed increased: 8 -> 10 units
  • Increased heavy attack hitstun duration: 0.4s -> 0.6s
  • Players are no longer able to spam attacks by holding down attack buttons

Other

  • Added Main Menu music
  • Added sound effects for blocking and parrying

A small message

Thank you for following our journey on making Defenestration! It has been a long ride with 10 weeks of production as of now and we will always appreciate your support of the game! Our journey hasn't ended yet as we plan to continue to work more on the game a bit more throughout the summer! After that, we will take a break and return perhaps in the fall to make a new game. See you then!
